Theme | Use and Integration of Infocomm Technology in Education: A Pedagogical Vision or Horror? |
Date | 27 September - 1 October 2004 |
Venue | Schleswig-Holstein, Germany |
Highlights | Returning to Europe, the ASEF Classroom Network addressed the topic of integrating ICT in education; for some a dream, but for others a nightmare. To varying degrees, this was already a reality for many ASEF ClassNet members, and there was much to learn and share on 27 September - 1 October 2004 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. |
Programme overview |
More than 50 secondary and high school teachers and educators from across ASEM partner countries actively participated in learning from educational technology experts and sharing their use of ICT in the classroom. Reflecting on the emergent reality in which ICT was being increasingly integrated into the educational process, teachers considered how information strategies within their schools might allow them to fully harness the benefits of technological advancements. Complementary presentations on the German educational system and visits to local schools gave participants further inspiration, and a chance to see theory in action. Teachers participated in working groups to propose and develop ideas for the future ASEF ClassNet Online Collaborations. This resulted in 13 new Online Collaborations to be coordinated by teachers from schools across Asia and Europe to facilitate better intercultural understanding and use of ICT in education. To aid their development of these Online Collaborations, participants also engaged in a plenary session on the topic of “Online Collaborations – Overcoming Diversity, Building Partnerships, Connecting Schools.” In recognition of their outstanding contributions, 3 of the previous year’s Online Collaborations were presented with ASEF ClassNet Awards. |
