Cultural Fiction

This project was intended to be a virtual book club, in which the participating countries could appreciate each other’s most celebrated modern literary genres or authors. Students were encouraged to look for strong literary connections to the local area where their school is situated. Each school thus made a selection from its country’s or local area’s most appreciated genres and authors, and choses novels, short stories or extracts from books that had been translated into English. The participating students in each school then continued by reading a selection of the literature proposed by another country, and as a follow-up discussed their impressions of cultural issues raised by this literature. The emphasis was on understanding different cultures through books and not primarily a literary analysis.
