Story

A meeting between two teachers, Ms Geeta RAJAN and Ms Alina STIEU at the 12th ASEF Classroom Network Conference in Sofia, Bulgaria in November 2015, blossomed into a beautiful friendship between the 2 countries and the 2 schools, St. Mark’s Senior Secondary Public School, Meera Bagh, New Delhi and the Petru Maior High School, Gherla, Romania.

The meeting generated an exchange activity between the two schools. The delegation from Romania consisting of 7 students along with 2 teachers, Mr Florine HARAN and Ms Ioana PRUNEAN from Petru Maior High School, Gherla, Romania visited our school from 18 to 25 October, 2016. During their stay in New Delhi, they had the opportunity to have a taste of the Indian lifestyle, culture, cuisine and festivals. Other than attending classes with their host buddies, they also participated in special workshops on Indian art and cuisine.

To allow our Romanian guests to know more about the cultural and heritage of India, they visited Darshan, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Lotus Temple and Delhi Haat. They also ventured on a day trip to Agra to see the famous Taj Mahal. A special event ‘Celebrating friendship between India & Romania, an “Sărbătoarea prieteniei româno-indiene” was organised on 21 October 2016 with our Special Guest-of-Honour, H.E. Mr Radu Octavian DOBRE, the Ambassador of Romania. Ambassador DOBRE said “It is good to see young students collaborating for a better world and the Embassy of Romania in New Delhi supports such programs whole-heartedly.”

As the successful exchange progressed, we were happy to see the camaraderie and friendship that had naturally developed among the teachers and the students of India and Romania.
